Nobility Documents of Lithuanian "Noble" Families

Example: Miknevičius Nobility Document dated 4 April 1902 (in Russian)

In 1996, I obtained the following "nobility document" from Lietuvos Valstybės Istorijos Archyvas (LVIA) (Lithuanian State Historical Archives) in Vilnius, Lithuania.  It was for the Miknevičius family of my maternal grandfather, and shows the male lineage starting with a Nikolajus Miknevičius and a 1711 event. The third page of the document is a chart that summarizes the male lineage that is described in the text of the document.  With respect to my own ancestors on this chart:

  • Person 12 on the lineage chart is my great-grandfather Liudvikas Miknevičius; this document says that he was baptized on 9 May 1850, but it doesn't say where (I had previously found this baptism record at Kurtuvėnai RCC).
  • Person 7 on the lineage chart is his father (my great-great-grandfather) Leonas Antanas Miknevičius; this document says that he was baptized on September 9, 1816, but doesn't say where (found this baptism record at Kurtuvėnai RCC).
  • Person 5 on the lineage chart is his father (my great-great-grandfather) Juozas Raimundas Miknevičius; this document says that he was baptized on February 29, 1796, but doesn't say where (I didn't find this baptism record at Kurtuvėnai RCC or nearby Kelme RCC; I plan to look next at nearby Bazilionai RCC and Pakapė RCC).
  • Person 4 on the lineage chart is his father (my great-great-great-grandfather) Juozas Miknevičius; this document doesn't say when or where he was baptized; it only says that he received a part of Vilaičiai estate from his father on January 27, 1792.

  • Person 3 on the lineage chart is his father (my gggg-grandfather) Jokūbas Miknevičius; this document doesn't say when or where he was baptized; it only says that he ....

  • Person 2 on the lineage chart is his father (my ggggg-grandfather) Kazimieras Miknevičius; this document doesn't say when or where he was baptized; it only says that he ....
  • Person 1 on the lineage chart is his father (my gggggg-grandfather) Nikolajus Miknevičius; this document doesn't say when or where he was baptized; it only says that he was the son of Stanislovas Miknevičius and that he had purchased the estates Padubysis-Taručiai-Vilaičiai (with the peasants), and that his right to own this property was approved in the Land court of Samogitia principality on April 16, 1711 [this right to own property was restricted to the nobility, and is being used here as the proof of his nobility].
